If it's ASD related then you are in the right place.  What do you need help with; diagnosis, behaviour, education or all of it?

Fabulous!

My little lad is 5 and we're just about to start the diagnosis process with a GP appointment next week. School are brilliant and have arranged some outreach support from our local special school and we're also about to start the EHCP. I am a behaviour specialist in a secondary school and have worked with children and young people with a variety of different needs for over 15 years but I'm completely overwhelmed by being on this side of things for a change. I have no idea about what sort of time scale to expect, what to tell him or what we're going to do with the diagnosis so some positive words of support or encouragement would be very well received :)

Neither of my boys were diagnosed until they were 12/13.  The eldest was queried as ASD at 4 (by the school nurse, but it took 3 assessments to get a DX ( says Aspergers, but has also been referred to ssevere autism by CAMHS).  We had to get a private diagnosis for our younger son before the NHS team would make a decision, we gave them a year before seeking the private assessment!http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/1843102064

We used this book http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/1843102064

The lack of a diagnosis shouldn't make a difference to getting the EHCP; neither of my boys was diagnosed when their statements were written.

Timescales are difficult, it varies so much form county to county.
