Hi, I'm Trish, I'm in the North East and have an eight year old daughter diagnosed last year with ASD, SPD and anxiety. I'm also have high anxiety and often find things overwhelming, wondering if I may be on the spectrum myself or if it's just high anxiety, I don't know. Still getting my head around what ASD is and means for my daughter. Filling in DLA form this morning and feeling like a fraud because I imagine that most people would think I was just making a fuss. Glad to have found this forum.

I think the problem with those awful forms is the fact that we are so used to our life we don't realise how removed from 'normal' life it is.
I have recently had to fill in the PIP form for my son and found it very difficult, the reason is that I suddenly realised how different my life is from the norm?

Hi and welcome,
We didn't fill in a DLA form for long enough. I think not realising how different life is, is correct, and in our case not helped by grandparents telling us everyone has trouble with x, y or z (making me feel a bit inadequate). Someone outside the family quite recently prompted us to fill it in the end.
Good luck

Hello and welcome
I know what you mean about the DLA form. I didn't apply until the situation at school had got so bad for our then 9 year old, that I had to give up my job to cope with the number of days he was unable to get to school at all.
Somehow filling in a DLA form makes everything seem very real, and you realise just how different your lives are to 'normal'
Good luck

Even after doing the DLA form and renewal I still delayed the PIP so long we had an assessment visit which was great as the assessor was brilliant. i would be kicking myself if she hadn't been, but it turned out well for us; we got the PIP without the distress of completing the paperwork and feeling a fraud.
Paperwork is the bane of our lives.

It's always hard when you get a diagnosis and then have to complete a DLA form. Parents with Asd children never make a fuss so please don't ever think that. Us parents are an awesome lot.
Look forward to chatting with you.

The dreaded DLA form!! We get so used to our 'normal' that we don't realise just how much we are often doing to support our children!
My son is 13 and our beginning on this journey was because of his severe anxiety. Getting help for that led us to an ASD diagnosis.
Look forward to seeing you on here xx
