On April Fool's Day 2003 the internet was diagnosed with ASDf, a debilitating condition characterised by tasteless jokes, excessive alcohol consumption and an obsession with doing a poo in strange places.

On that auspicious day a very good friend of ours helped set up the forum, and in the process established an account for himself that he used once, to test it.

Last night, using my considerable powers of persuasion ("Can I have your account to sell on ASDf?" "Yes") he agreed to donate:

ASDf Member Account Number 1

Just for a laugh, and to raise a bit of money to help pay ASDf's expenses, we thought that it would be fun to auction this account so that the member with the biggest wad could claim to be our biggest member. :whistle

We might even put the sale on eBay (that way it would be utterly fair) if you lot think that is a good idea, starting on 1st September.

Go for it.

Put me down as Bid #1 to start the bidding at $10 as I'll be at work that day.

I love the idea of it and ebay would be fair. You could mask the identity of the bidders so we wouldn't know who had won till they logged in with it and, whats more, you could make it a closed auction so only asdf members could bid (otherwise anyone could grab it).

Should have said as well that i think it is a great idea but i would go with Phas and restrict it to members only.

Why not have it ending on the 1st sept. and then anyone coming to York can find out---and so can anyone else right enough by seeing it.

How do we do that?

By the way, all bidders must submit a tiebreaker question (just in case, and absolutely not for the gratuitous entertainment of the mod team.)

The question is:

"I deserve to be ASDf Member Number 1 because..."

Me? Why would I bid? Being the power behind the throne is far more fun. :devilred:

You can arrange this through the 'Block buyer/bidder' option apparently. I have seen it done, just never done it.

I've found out how to block individuals - what I need to do is work out how to do it the other way round, so only approved buyers can bid...

There seems to be a 'preapprove' option somewhere - but I can't find it.

Tie breaker------------------ :devilred: gross misuse of power (behind the throne of course) :gareth

I have not actually said i think it is a great idea but ---i do. Do i get extra points for asking who was number 1 in the first place :)

Don't know how the e-bay thing would work--so i can only think of doing it either very publicly on a thread--which might encourage more bids or PM'd bids to admin and no chance to up it--your first go is it.

I've just been checking - the only way you can block bids is by naming individuals (not practical) or by blocking people with bad eBay records.

So if we do it on eBay, then it has to be an open auction.

Not really a problem, I suppose...

Not too sure that i agree that e-bay would be ok.
Whilst we might think no-one else would be interested in this there are people out there who want the strangest of things or have very bizarre motives for doing things
I have my reservations about this if it cannot be a closed auction
