Although I can get into chat, it is always a surprise as to who is in there already.

The little red box above the chat tab may say 4 people, I can look on the user list (at the end of the forums page) and see that names of maybe 3 people, and when I get into chat there are 5 people there !

Dobbie, instead of a left click to get into the chatroom right click and then click on 'open in new tab' and hopefully it will get you in.

I have found if I can't get in by clicking the chat tab, I click the forums tab, then view new content and THEN the chat tab, and that has worked each time (so far) . These are all left clicks .

A couple of people in chat last night said they could see each entry several times.

Also new people arrive, stay a couple of minutes and go without saying anything. There is no way of telling if they can see us already in chat, and then run away, or they can't see us at all.

The recommendations we have received are:

1. Check you are running the latest version of Java
2. Clear your cache on your computer and re-start

There is still no indicationt that they know what is going wrong, or can fix it.

Can you remind me again how to clear my cache what ever it is please?

We got some of the members last night to refresh, restart, delete browser history with no effect. Will keep telling them to try.

last night things were so bad i had to give up and leave the chatroom, everything that was being typed in was appearing about 10 times which made following the conversation very frustrating. Everytime somebody posted i would get several repeats of the last few minutes of the conversation. according to my users list there were 13 of us in chat when in fact there was only 7, one person on the list appeared 4 times and another one 3 times.
whenever i posted a comment it disappeared into the ether, so i couldnt see it but other people were answering my questions so obviously they could see what i had written.

Thanks FM for writing that, hopefully it will get sorted Cial was also seeing duplicated posts so your not alone. I know the other night you thought it was your laptop but as now 3 people have reported the duplicated posts I would hold off blaming it for a moment.

Anyway, try this;

Open up your browser and clear the 'internet history' or 'browsing history' its in the options menu which is usually on the top of the browser window and represented by a screw driver or a cog.

Try installing another browser than the one you are using. I use Google Chrome but for ages it wouldnt work on chat so I installed FireFox which worked fine.

Hope that works, if not post again, we do miss you in chat

Slightly different, but may be relevant; to access hotmail DD has to use the incognito option on the option menu ( spanner on our tool bar) Is this because there is then no cache/ history? sorry if I'm asking a dumb question, but I really don't understand browsers

Last night chat seemed to be ok until i opened my mouth and typed chatroom behaving itself tonight, this was about 11:15 and within 5 minutes the problems all started again with the repitition of posts, again it made conversation difficult.

There are still problems with people not being able to see the conversation once they are in chat.

Tonight a couple of people (who have chatted before) have appeared on the chat screen, but they can't see what we are saying.
