Proberly old news and only mentioned very briefly but in this Daily Mail article it claims Daryl Hannah was dx with Autism at seven, thought I would share, anyone else heard anything to this effect?

The dx was apparently made because "she was once such a wallflower" according to this 2006 biography.

Hardly a credible example of triad diagnosis....

She is 47 so I wonder how this borderline autism was dx 40 years ago, or maybe someone decided recently that she was autistic at 7 and they also say she overcame it and florished as an actress, she does seem a little eccentric (by the average Joes ideal anyway!)

I'm not saying this is the same as Daryl Hannah's case but I once met a new agey type woman who told people she was autistic as a child but recovered from it by using art (i'm 99.9% sure she wasn't). She dwelled on the being a loner, being 'ethereal,' being different and hard to reach blah blah

Her face fell when I told her my child was autistic - I honestly think she thought autism was a terribly whimsical and fashionable label :glare:

Bang on - this is what I think is the case with the comments about Daryl Hannah.

Ask the 'average Joe' (nice phrase, Tatty) and 'autism' is just a lack of emotional intelligence, or poor empathy, or excessive reserve.

Being "a wallflower" isn't autism - it's just one of the less unpleasant childhood stereotypes.
